Many organizations utilize Aviary to create and refine audiovisual transcripts and indexes. For users who perform these tasks frequently, adopting a foot pedal can significantly boost efficiency by turning common controls into hands-free operations. This guide demonstrates how one Aviary Product Manager configured a customizable foot pedal for this workflow.
The configuration was performed using a PC Sensor FS20220U1IR_V5.5 Custom Foot Switch pedal. To program the pedal, the corresponding PC Sensor ElfKey software is used. Within this application, the "Keyboard function" is selected, allowing the pedal to function exactly like a USB keyboard.
To maximize efficiency during transcription and editing, the following essential Aviary keyboard shortcuts were mapped to the three pedals:
Play/Pause: One pedal was set to the Cmd + P keys. This action causes the media player to play or pause each time it is clicked.
Activate Search: The middle pedal was set to Ctrl + F. This action activates a search.
Rewind/Go Back: The right pedal was set to Ctrl + R. This action causes the media player to rewind by the number of seconds assigned in the media player user interface.
By mapping these shortcuts, users can keep their hands on the keyboard for typing and mouse controls, streamlining the content editing workflow.
